Just made an enantiomer separation with an organic base similar to quinine, hope that it will work.
Anyone wants to drink a tonic water? :D
Chemistry made with really large amounts is always much-much better than working with milligrams(:
This looks so horrible. Only 30g substance in an 500cm3 flask an it looks like a foam.
The good point: if it’s pure than I had a 80% yield reaction!
Started from a transparent liquid just before chloroform was added and dichlorocarbe evolved. I hope that the reaction will end up with something useful.
Dichlorocarbene is a highly reactive carbene what is usually generated in situ from chloroform with a stong base.
Isocyanides could be identified from 3 things:
1: their strong, unpleasant odor
2: their high fluorescense under UV light
3: the headache what they cause when you accidentally contact them
But at all, this looks fairly nice(:
Have You seen my portfolio? It’s over here: http://labphoto.tumblr.com/tagged/portfolio
Vacuum distillation with micro amounts.
The whole stuff was 3g and there was 3 fraction. 1-st fraction between 60-80 Celsius, second between 110-120 Celsius and one above 200 Celsius. The problem: 800mg of distillate was collected, because the distilling solution polymerized into the flask above 100 Celsius):
